Many marvelous legends have come down through the centuries about Albert the Great. He was supposed to have carried a magic cup that cured the sick. When the king of the Netherlands (Holland) visited Albert, the saint made flowers bloom in winter for royal amusement. His tomb in Cologne was a pilgrimage site following his death. Part of his remains were transferred to Lauingen and Regensburg. In liturgical art, Albert the Great is depicted in Dominican habit. He is patron of Cologne University, miners, and naturalists. His feast day is November 15.
